A Landscape of Timeless Grace
When I look out from our terrace in Castelmuzio, the world seems to pause. Here, between the gentle golden swells of the UNESCO-protected Val d'Orcia and the quiet, lunar-like furrows of the Crete Senesi, life moves to the ancient rhythm of the soil and the wind.
Centuries of painters, poets, and travellers have sought refuge in these hills, captured by the singular light that bathes the cypress roads leading toward Pienza, Montepulciano, Montalcino, and the towers of Siena. It is a region of honest pleasures—the fragrance of wild rosemary, warm pressed olive oil, and cellars filled with noble wines.
I opened Casa Moricciani and Le Casine di Castello so you could experience this timeless sanctuary not as a visitor passing through, but as a cherished guest welcomed home.
Val d'Orcia
From our doorstep in Castelmuzio, the gentle slopes of the Val d'Orcia open wide—a protected UNESCO World Heritage landscape sculpted through centuries by quiet agricultural devotion and luminous light. Slender cypress avenues contour the crests, tracing pathways past silver olive groves and golden wheat fields that shift under the Tuscan sun.
For generations, Renaissance masters, poets, and discerning travellers have sought this valley for its stillness and unhurried grace. Here, timeless hamlets rest among the hills, offering moments of authentic hospitality, exquisite wines, and views that remain etched in the heart long after departure.

Crete Senesi
Just north of Castelmuzio, the gentle olive groves give way to something wholly unexpected: the grey-clay badlands of the Crete Senesi. It is an almost lunar solitude—gentle undulating ridges, deep erosion gullies, and isolated stone farmhouses guarded by solitary cypress trees beneath an endless Tuscan sky.
This quiet, stark beauty has remained unchanged for centuries. Whenever I need to step away from the rhythms of the village, I walk these open ridges at twilight, where the light turns the clay from chalky silver to warm amber.
Towns & Cities Nearby
From Castelmuzio, the gentle winding roads of the Val d'Orcia open out toward ancient walled towns that have stood for centuries. Just across the valley sits Pienza, the ideal Renaissance gem crafted by Pope Pius II, alongside the commanding fortress and stone cellars of Montepulciano, and the noble vineyards of Montalcino, home of Brunello.
Take an unhurried morning to wander the quiet stone lanes of San Quirico d'Orcia and Castiglione d'Orcia, look out over the dramatic heights of Radicofani, or drive north to Siena for an afternoon in the shell-shaped Piazza del Campo. Local morning markets, harvest festivals, and quiet village piazzas are always waiting whenever you choose to explore.
