Castelmuzio Borgo Salotto
A Community Project
Our quiet hilltop village came together to turn every alley, piazzetta, and stone threshold into a shared living room — welcoming travelers into the genuine warmth and shared life of our community.

How our village became an open-air living room
Castelmuzio has always carried an ancient, gentle stillness, but in recent years, our stone streets witnessed a quiet renaissance of community life. Together with my dear friend Maria Stella Bianchini, we shared a deep wish to nurture this place we cherish so deeply. Maria Stella inspired our neighbors to gather their energy and form a dedicated civic association: Castelmuzio Borgo Salotto.
Our purpose was simple yet profound: to enrich daily life for the residents who keep this village alive, while opening our doors warmly to travelers from all over the world. We wanted everyone who steps through our gates to feel not like a passerby, but like an invited friend stepping across a welcoming threshold.
“We wanted our belvedere to become an intimate living room under the open sky — where one could read, rest, or simply gaze across the hills.”
— Isabella Barlocher & Maria Stella Bianchini
The town belvedere was lovingly transformed into an open-air living room—our salotto. We furnished the stone terrace with welcoming armchairs, tables, and chaise lounges, along with a free public Wi-Fi hotspot, all set against a sweeping panoramic vista of the Tuscan hills. Here, neighbors share morning conversation and travelers sit quietly watching the afternoon light settle into the valley.
Throughout the summer, Borgo Salotto brings the village alive with a vibrant calendar of community events. Our piazzas and arches host open-air concerts, art exhibitions, literary lectures, and shared cooking celebrations. Every gathering is open freely to residents and guests alike, creating a rare atmosphere where village tradition and warm hospitality meet.

Castelmuzio & Val d'Orcia
A medieval village of 250 souls, untouched by hurried time.
Perched atop a tufo ridge with panoramic vistas of the surrounding olive groves, Castelmuzio preserves its ancient stone archway portal, medieval ramparts, and a quiet, deeply connected way of living.

"Guests here are never strangers. You step outside, and within a single morning, you share espresso and greetings with those who have lived here for generations."
— Isabella Barlocher
Castelmuzio grew from antique Etruscan and Roman foundations, later fortified in the Middle Ages along the historic routes pilgrims traversed on their descent toward Rome. The original stone gate still welcomes everyone who arrives on foot, stepping straight into preserved stone alleys unbothered by automobile traffic.
Within these ramparts sit quiet treasures: historic parish churches, an intimate museum of sacred art, and rows of warm limestone facades. But its true soul is human. In the central piazza, village elders discuss the harvest over coffee, children play freely in the afternoons, and the friendly local grocery still packs fresh pecorino and local olive oils by hand.
Staying at Casa Moricciani or Le Casine places you not merely beside Tuscany, but directly inside the living fabric of its community.
